Hawaii takes action on possible JET Program cuts

Dear JETAA Hawaii Ohana,

As many of you are aware, the JET Program is facing its biggest threat since its inception 23 years ago. The Japanese government is considering downsizing or possibly eliminating the program altogether. Thank you to those who have signed the online petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/view/save_the_jet_program in support of keeping the JET Program. We encourage you to visit the website if you have not yet done so, and spread the word to friends, family, and other alumni. Anyone is able to sign the petition, which currently has over 1300 signatures.

On Wednesday morning, Darryl Toma, JETAA Hawaii Vice President, and I were interviewed about the pressing issue on Hawaii News Now’s Sunrise program, thanks to Lisa Kubota, JET alumna and Hawaii News Now news anchor. You may view the interviews at http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=12805830 for the following week and a half, at which point they will be taken off.

Thank you for your continued support, and let’s save the JET Program!

Kelsey Soma Turek
President
