Happi Jikan at Pearl

leave a comment »

In an effort to combat the decline of our Japanese skills (or lack thereof!), JETAA Hawaii had its first Nihongo Dake event, Ha-Ji, aka Happi Jikan! What better way to improve our Japanese than to practice it – and for some, while consuming alcoholic beverages?

Thanks especially to JETAA Hawaii Treasurer Krystle Hara’s inviting her Japanese students, we had a great turnout and everyone was able to practice their Japanese (and for Krystle’s students, practice their English, too!). From attempting to translate English slang into Japanese to trying to figure out which Japanese celebrity one of the attendees resembled, the conversation topics tested everyone’s abilities in their respective foreign languages.

Thanks to everyone who came out and we look forward to seeing you again for the next Ha-Ji!
